About Us:
The Pride of Indy Band & Color Guard is a community organization comprised of musicians and pageantry artists whom perform, promote, and increase public interest and awareness in the instrumental ensemble mediums. We are comprised of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender & GLBT-friendly musicians and conduct our activities in a supportive, accepting and affirming atmosphere. Founded in March of 2005, we are the only LGBTS band and color guard in the state.

We strive to perform in a variety of venues and musical styles. This is evident when you look at our performance schedule for 2006. This schedule includes six concerts, six pep music performances, one parade and a variety of visits to other cities to participate in their pride events. In addition to performances, the organization participates in social outings and has weekly rehearsals.

Our core rehearsal group consists of roughly 45 people for full ensemble and 5-12 for our smaller ensembles which include a Jazz Band, Woodwind Ensemble and a Brass Ensemble.

Volunteer Opportunity:

We are currently seeking an individual to lead our organization into the next chapter as our Music Director on a volunteer basis. The Director’s main responsibility is to ensure the ensemble is fulfilling its artistic potential. In support of this fulfillment, the Director is responsible for the following:

• Conduct rehearsals and performances in a welcoming environment
• Work with other committee members to plan and implement our performance calendar, including music and performance selections
• Support our community image by attending events relevant to overall band public relations
• Work with musicians in the organization to ensure their musical talents are being developed
• Select guest conductors and soloists
• Keep abreast of current trends in group music performance

As we enter into our second year, we are preparing for growth on multiple levels including our artistic accomplishments. Our new Music Director will have the opportunity to help lead this initiative and help us achieve the full artistic potential of this very dedicated group of musicians and pageantry artists. This position will be two years in length dependent upon successful completion of bi-annual reviews.
Position Requirements:

The ideal candidate’s background will include the following:

• Be versed in multiple musical styles and performance mediums
• Ability to detect and correct or compliment intonation, balance, blend and rhythmic accuracies and inaccuracies
• Bachelor’s Degree in Music or two years conducting experience
• Past involvement with a not-for-profit organization, experience working with a non-profit board is a plus
• Minimum of two years experience performing in a music ensemble. Four to six years preferred
• Ability to communicate in front of a large audience
• Demonstrated ability to work within a budget
• Willingness to participate in fund-raising activities for the band

Application Process:

Candidates interested in this volunteer opportunity should email their resume and cover letter to: opportunities@prideofindy.org, or send it to: P.O. Box 33213 Indianapolis, Indiana 46203-0213.
